Bitrix24 in the UAE: how the project differs from a Russian one

A Bitrix24 portal set up for a company operating in the UAE: time zone, currency and messaging channels

Companies opening a legal entity in the UAE often ask for «the same Bitrix24 we had before». The product really is the same, but the project is not. Here are five places where the differences show up in practice, and they are much cheaper to handle at the start than to rebuild six months later.

Working week and time zone

In the UAE the working week usually runs Monday to Friday, the weekend is Saturday and Sunday, and the time zone is GMT+4. If the portal is still set to another zone, every deadline rule drifts: a task due «end of day» closes at night, weekly reports count the wrong days, and automation pings managers outside working hours. The time zone is set both on the portal and on every user, otherwise meeting calendars disagree between offices.

Messaging channels

Elsewhere a client calls first. In the UAE the number one business messenger is WhatsApp, and the conversation starts there well before the first call. So an open channel with WhatsApp belongs in the first iteration, together with routing rules and reply templates. Telephony stays, but its share of first contact is noticeably lower.

Money in the deal card

The portal currency is the dirham. If the company also works in another currency, both are set up with a rate, otherwise the pipeline report adds up amounts that are not comparable. VAT at 5 percent is configured separately in invoice templates, and corporate tax in management reporting. This is not a checkbox: sales plans and end to end analytics both depend on it.

Personal data

The UAE has a federal personal data protection law, and it applies to a CRM the same way it applies to a website. In the portal that means three things: a clear basis for keeping a contact, limited access for employees to other people's clients, and a retention period after which the record is anonymised. Bitrix24 access rights cover this out of the box, but they have to be designed deliberately instead of leaving «everyone sees everything».

Two languages in one record

A UAE team is usually mixed, so the portal lives in two languages at once. We set the interface per user in their own language, while stage names, field names and document templates stay in English, because the client sees those. Stage names left in another language that later show up in an English quote are the most common small fix after go live.

None of this makes the project harder when it is decided up front. We do Bitrix24 implementation in Dubai and the UAE with setup for local processes, and then keep the portal running on monthly hour packages as new teams, integrations and reports appear.
